Ben’s Story

Ben on volunteering at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn

“The staff that I support appreciate my help”

I started volunteering at the hospital in 2018.  I also volunteer at the Junior Gateway Club helping the staff to look after younger children doing activities.

When I started at the hospital, I helped on the front desk showing people where to go and pushing patients in wheelchairs who need help to get to different parts of the hospital.  I moved to the orthopaedic outpatient department in 2021.  I help with collecting patient notes from the medical records library, the wards, and anywhere else in the hospital that the notes may be.

I help to get patient notes ready for clinic and when patients arrive for their appointment, I take the notes down to the clinic rooms.  I like helping patients, one day I helped a lady who had both her arms in plaster use her mobile phone to call for a lift home.

The staff that I support appreciate my help and tell me that I have become part of their team.
