The NHS COVID-19 vaccination programme will begin to invite eligible people to come forward for their life-saving autumn booster jabs from 7 September 2022. Frontline health and care workers, people who are immunosuppressed and people who are 75 and over will able to book in for the variant-targeted vaccine from 7am on September 7 2022.

Around four million people most vulnerable to COVID-19 will be invited to book with letters landing on doormats. People can book by going online or calling 119 with appointments available from Monday 12 September. 

The move follows the successful launch of autumn boosters in care homes on Monday, with the NHS delivering vaccines at one thousand care homes this week.

Around 80 national hospital hubs will also join the latest booster campaign – delivering the vaccine to members of the public as well as their own staff, administering the flu vaccine where possible.

Nationally, since the NHS made history delivering the first COVID-19 vaccine more than 126 million Covid-19 vaccines, including over 33 million top-up vaccinations, have been administered.

People who are immunosuppressed can also choose to walk-in for their Autumn booster, bringing with them a GP or consultant letter, or prescription that identifies their immunosuppressed status.

Some patients may be invited to have their vaccination at a local GP-led site. A number of pharmacies in the area will also offer the autumn booster to eligible patients.

The NHS will contact people when it is their turn to book in for the vaccine – you do not need to contact the NHS. We urge all those invited for both a flu and COVID-19 booster vaccine to take up the offer as quickly as possible – it will give you maximum protection this winter.
