Norwich Wellbeing Hub to host NHS Health Checks

3rd May 2023

From May, Norwich’s Castle Quarter Wellbeing Hub will offer a free NHS Health Check for  Norfolk residents aged 40-74.

The 20–30-minute check-up will tell you your risk of developing health problems such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and stroke.

It consists of both clinical tests and lifestyle questions. You will be given your results and practical advice about how you can lower your risk factors during your appointment. The results are also sent to your GP automatically.

The new partnership is intended to improve Norfolk residents’ access to this important health service.

You are eligible for a free NHS Health Check if:

  • You are registered with a Norfolk GP, or you live in Norfolk
  • You are aged between 40 and 74
  • You are not being treated by your GP for an existing diagnosed vascular condition
  • You have not had an NHS Health Check in the last five years

Daniel Dcruz, Service Manager at Norfolk Health Checks, said:

“Since last April, we have delivered over 9000 NHS Health Checks.

It’s our mission to help as many people as possible to access their health check, so we are delighted to have partnered with the Norwich Wellbeing Hub to make this service even more accessible.

From May, our team will be at the hub three to four days per week. Come and see us and take 30 minutes out of your day to have your NHS Health Check – it could be one of the best decisions you make for your health.”

Dr Frankie Swords, Executive Medical Director, NHS Norfolk and Waveney, said:

“We are really pleased to be launching an even easier way for people to have their NHS health checks. These checks only take around 30 minutes and might just save your life. They can spot the earliest signs of health problems like type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure, and if we find them, we can help you to make simple changes to massively cut your chance of developing more serious conditions later, to keep us healthier for longer.

“If you have been invited for this free NHS health check, please don’t ignore it, or leave it for later. Call and arrange yours today, or just drop in, if you have been invited our Wellness Hub in the heart of Norwich.”

Robert Bradley, Centre Manager at Castle Quarter said:

“Over the last four years, Castle Quarter has transformed into a leisure, social and lifestyle hub, and we are delighted that the NHS is, once more, part of that offering. Being a core part of the local community has always been at the heart of Castle Quarter and we are delighted that people can now book a free NHS Health Check at the Wellbeing Hub, which is at the main Castle Meadow entrance to Castle Quarter.”

Reed Wellbeing provides Norfolk NHS Health Checks on behalf of Norfolk County Council. The service is designed to help 36,000 Norfolk residents to have their NHS Health Check.
