Neurodiversity in Adults

What is neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is a word used to describe the different thinking styles that affect how people communicate with the world around them.

Neurodiversity can affect someone’s behaviour, memory, or ability to learn.

It is an umbrella term – a word that sums up lots of different things. It includes conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and Tourette’s.

Getting an assessment

NHS Providers

To get an assessment using NHS services, you need to speak to your GP. The provider of the ADHD assessment service is Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust Adult ADHD Service, but you will need to be referred to this service.

Norfolk and Waveney Approved Providers on the Adult (18+) ADHD Framework

All of these provides can provide ADHD assessments and can prescribe ADHD medication following a positive diagnosis, in addition to undertaking annual reviews for this medication:

To be referred to one of these providers, you will need to discuss with your GP your chosen provider from the list above and they will send the referral form. This referral form is available on their clinical system. You can also find this information on our Knowledge NoW website for healthcare resources here.

Norfolk and Waveney ICB are not able to assure the clinical quality and safety of providers who are not on this Framework.

Right to Choose Providers

Many patients have been requesting referrals from their GP to an NHS Right to Choose provider. A Right to Choose provider is an organisation that holds a contract with an Integrated Care Board (ICB) and this qualifies them to operate nationally. You can find our Right to Choose policy for patients here. More information on Right to Choose can also be found on the NHS England’s webpage about Right to Choose here.

The providers listed on our Adult ADHD framework have undergone a quality assurance process established at the local level. This process includes a thorough review of their diagnostic pathways, confirmation of adherence to our local shared care formulary, and ensuring the provision of annual reviews.

These approved providers have demonstrated compliance with our quality benchmarks, meeting the standards required for inclusion in our Norfolk and Waveney framework.
