What is the project?

PERIPrem (Perinatal Excellence to Reduce Injury in Premature Birth) is a unique perinatal care bundle of 11 interventions that demonstrate a significant impact on brain injury and mortality rates amongst babies born prematurely. PERIPrem also forges new ways of working, where clinicians from obstetrics, midwifery and neonatal join together to drive forward and revolutionise care for pre-term babies.

All 3 Trusts within the LMNS have now fully embedded this care bundle with Perinatal teams consisting of an Obstetrician, Midwife, Neonatologist and Neonatal Nurse. The PERIprem passport follows the journey of the preterm baby from Mother’s admission to the Maternity Unit until the discharge of the baby from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The care bundle also includes a baby passport which empowers the parents to record and tick off each of the 11 elements of care as it is  received throughout their journey.
