Professor Will Pope

Interim Chair of Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board

Will has been Chair of NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board since July 2022. He is also the Co-Chair of the Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Partnership, along with Cllr Steve Wiles (Suffolk County Council Health and Wellbeing Board Chair) and Cllr John Spence (Essex County Council Health and Wellbeing Board Chair). He will continue in both these positions, alongside his role in Norfolk and Waveney.

Will has worked in various roles in and around Suffolk and North East Essex since the 1990s, and was Chair of the Integrated Care System from 2019 until the ICB was established in 2022, when he became Chair of the ICB. He has a wealth of experience from his various roles within the NHS, academia and business, including over his 40+ year career at chair and chief executive level.

His experience ranges from being Chairman of the East of England Development Agency, to Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Suffolk, Chairman of Yorkshire and Humber (and national) Academic Health Science Network, Chairman of the Society for the Environment, Chairman of the Environmental Policy Forum, Vice President (and past Chair) of the Institution of Environmental Sciences.  He has wide experience from been Chairman of a Primary Care Trust and a Director of an Ambulance Service Trust, to being CEO of a number of businesses in the professional consulting sector, including what was at the time the largest such business in the UK.

On his appointment as Interim Chair of Norfolk and Waveney ICB, he said: “I am really pleased to be taking on this role and to be supporting NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB through the inevitable challenges and change over the coming period. There is a lot of excellent and innovative work taking place in Norfolk and Waveney that will be great for me to learn more about, and I want to thank Patricia and Hein for all the work they did as Chair and Acting Chair respectively.

“As ever, the challenges and changes in health and social care are not only local but also face the NHS as a whole and our local authority colleagues too. There are many talented people working in health and care in Norfolk and Waveney who I look forward to working with as we navigate these interesting waters.”
