Bowel Cancer Screening Programme

8th May 2025

Purpose:

This project seeks to identify patients who have been invited to participate in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme but have not yet done so. By reaching out to these individuals, we aim to raise awareness and encourage participation, particularly for those who may be at higher risk of undetected bowel cancer.

Objective:

Identify patients who are non-responders, encourage them to use their existing kit or order a new one, and then send this information to the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP). This will help verify and process requests and motivate patients to complete and return the bowel cancer screening kit (faecal immunochemical test kit or FIT).

Method:

Patients who are eligible for this program will receive a text message reminding them to complete the questionnaire and encouraging them to send the testing kit to the provider’s address. They will have the option to follow a link to submit their answers or request a new kit if needed, or they can decline the offer. If a patient does not respond, the Protect Now support team will call them to provide information about the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and emphasize the importance of participating in screening.
