Continue to use services as normal during NHS strikes this week

11th November 2025

People in Norfolk and Waveney are urged to not delay in seeking NHS care if they feel unwell or become injured during British Medical Association (BMA) industrial action taking place later this week.

Resident doctors will undertake strike action from 7am on Friday 14 November until 7am on Wednesday 19 November 2025.

The Norfolk and Waveney health and care system is working closely with local NHS providers and partners to implement robust plans which prioritise patient safety and maintain essential services throughout the industrial action period.

People are reminded to use NHS 111 online or call 111 if they need urgent medical advice or are unsure about their symptoms. This service can often provide advice immediately and, where necessary, direct patients to appropriate services, including arranging home visits or timed appointments at emergency departments.

For life-threatening emergencies, people should continue to call 999 or attend their nearest emergency department without delay.

How you can help support the NHS during this period:

  • Only call 999 or attend emergency departments for genuine emergencies, such as chest pain, severe breathing difficulties, stroke symptoms, or uncontrolled bleeding.
  • For urgent mental health support, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option.
  • For non-urgent health concerns, contact your GP practice, pharmacist, or attend a minor injuries unit (Cromer) or walk in centre (Norwich).
  • If you have a hospital appointment and have not been contacted about any changes, please attend as planned. If you cannot attend, contact the number on your appointment letter to allow the slot to be reallocated.

Dr Frankie Swords, Executive Medical Director for Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB), said: “Patients with planned appointments and procedures should continue to attend these as planned, unless you’re contacted directly to reschedule.

“We encourage people who need urgent medical care to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and life-threatening cases.

“NHS 111 and your local community pharmacy remain great options if you need health advice, or you’re unsure what to do next.

“Our commitment is to minimise disruption and deliver safe care for those who need it most.”
