Purpose: The Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) is working with TIC Health Limited to increase uptake of the NHS Lung Cancer Screening (LCS) programme. This project aims to support earlier detection of lung cancer, particularly among people aged 55–74 who are current or former smokers and therefore at greater risk.
Objective: The Lung Cancer Screening programme is designed to find lung cancer at an earlier stage when treatment is simpler and more effective. Eligible patients will be invited by TIC Health for a Lung Health Check. Depending on the results, patients may receive a clear outcome with no further action required, be referred to their GP for support with lung or breathing concerns, or be offered a low-dose CT scan if they are considered at higher risk. By identifying problems sooner, the programme aims to reduce late diagnoses and improve survival rates.
Method: The ICB’s Population Health Management team carries out risk-stratification using information from GP records to help identify patients who are eligible for the programme. TIC Health then contacts these patients directly by SMS, letters, or phone calls and delivers the Lung Health Checks. These checks are carried out by a trained nurse, either by telephone or in person. Following the assessment, patients receive clear information on their next steps, and outcomes are also shared with their GP.
