NHS Health Checks

17th June 2025

Purpose: Norfolk County Council Public Health is collaborating with the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, REED Wellbeing, and local GP practices to encourage more people to participate in the NHS Health Check. This initiative aims to increase awareness and uptake of the program, which helps detect early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and dementia.

Objective: The NHS Health Check is designed to lower your risk of heart and blood vessel conditions, including heart disease, stroke, dementia, and kidney disease. Many warning signs, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, often do not present any symptoms. This health check helps identify your cardiovascular risk, enabling you to take action to improve your health through lifestyle changes or medications.

Method: Patients eligible for this program will receive a text message reminding them that their health check is due. The message will include a link directing them to a landing page where they can find useful information about the importance of attending this appointment. This page also provides access to a booking system, allowing patients to choose the most convenient location, date, and time for their appointment. These appointments will be conducted by a health professional.
