Innovative health initiatives across Norfolk and Waveney are helping bring the NHS 10-Year Health Plan to life – making care easier to access, more focused on prevention, and sustainable for the future.
Launched in July 2025, the national plan was shaped by patients, staff, partners, and the public. It sets out three key changes in how care is delivered:
- From hospital to community – more care closer to home, with improved access to GPs, neighbourhood health centres, and 24/7 mental health support.
- From analogue to digital – using tools like the NHS App and joined-up patient records to make care seamless.
- From sickness to prevention – earlier screening, stronger child health support, and more help to stay well.
Engagement with local communities in late 2024 and early 2025 helped identify what matters most to people. This feedback shaped the national plan and continues to guide local programmes.
Across Norfolk and Waveney, a range of projects are already supporting these shifts, including:
- Falls prevention programmes
- Early cancer screening
- Mobile health services
- Digital patient records
- Community fitness and wellbeing initiatives
Ed Garratt OBE, Interim Chief Executive of NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB, said:
“The NHS 10-Year Health Plan sets out a bold vision for a healthier England. Here in Norfolk and Waveney, we’re already making that vision a reality – bringing care closer to home, making the most of technology, and focusing on prevention so people can live healthier lives for longer.”
As these programmes continue to grow, local teams will build on their successes, expanding initiatives that make a real difference to people’s health and wellbeing.
